The “TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award” winning digital photo printing service is the cheapest service we reviewed. They use an upload model identical to the #1 service Snapfish ; however, they lack the ability to upload your photos from your cell phone and only store you photos for 60 days.
We were impressed with how easy it was to upload digital photos to YorkPhoto.com; the step-by-step print ordering process was a cinch to follow. We feel that most anyone could order prints from this site without problems. They utilize the same upload technology as Snapfish.
We sent the following three digital photos to every online photo developer we reviewed.
Sunset: Our sunset was printed with just the right amount of yellow and red. Neither our scenery or models seemed too dark or washed out.
Black and White: Our black and white image was printed with a little more yellow undertone than we would have liked, but to the untrained and naked eye this is not a distracting problem.
Aerial: York Photo cleaned up our foggy aerial shot well. The buildings are crisp and clean, with only a slight amount of yellowing on the buildings in the forefront.Note: To compare quality, we took each set of prints received from the online photo developer and laid them down, side-by-side next to each other to compare quality.
YorkPhoto.com offers some of the lowest prices for digital photo developing and provides volume discounts for 35 mm film developing—which makes it an excellent value, no matter what your picture-taking methodology. This service doesn't offer volume discounts for digital photos, however.
You can also share your photos online with family and friends free. However, YorkPhoto considers accounts without any purchases on them for more than 60 days as “inactive” and will delete your albums. This is disappointing because most services allow one year of storage.
Just before finalizing our purchase YorkPhoto suggested we adjust our print size to better suit our digital photo. This resulted in a slightly smaller print; however, the service did not need to do any cropping to adjust our images to typical photo paper.YorkPhoto.com's shipping costs tied with several other services for one of the lowest shipping charges. To ship four 4 x 6 inch prints, this service charged us $.99. The actual postage rate for USPS First-Class Mail is $.97, so, YorkPhoto.com kept only $.02 for packaging and handling.
YorkPhoto.com ships your finished prints to you in a paper sleeve reinforced with a lightweight cardboard insert, then placed in a paper envelope. Although this is cheaper packaging compared to other printing services, our photos arrived without incident.York Photo is a great service if you are looking for simple and cheap.
