Mpix is designed for the advanced ammature or experience photographer that knows what they want and how they want it. We would not suggest this service for the average shutterbug. They are expensive, don’t offer gifts and will not enhance your images for free.
Mpix's process for uploading photos is extremely organized, but along the way there are several chances to purchase additional services to enhance your prints. Be careful that you don't accidentally add more cost than you want from these enhancements.
To test for quality, we sent the same digital photos to all of the online photo developers we reviewed.
Note: To check quality, we took each set of prints received from the online photo developer and laid them down, side-by-side for comparison.
Mpix's per-print pricing is high as compared with most other online photo printing services. Additionally, if you would like your photographs fixed or enhanced it would cost an extra $.10. Most services do this for free.
Mpix does, however, offer volume discount pricing, if you purchase in large quantities. This site is geared more toward professionals and advanced armatures. We found they focused more on the type of paper and photo features more than their gift options. Additionally, they have a really short storage expiration set at 60 days, whereas, most services will keep your photos hosted for one year. It also seemed to take longer uploading photos than most of the services we reviewed.
They also offer finishing services such as canvas or matte board, as well as retouching.Mpix's charges to ship us four 4 x 6 inch prints was #3.26, the actual postage for USPS First Class was $1.14, leaving $1.37 for packaging and handling. This total shipping cost was very expensive and the highest we reviewed.
Our prints came in a thin paper sleeve, wrapped inside a rigid, cardboard envelope. One of the other online photo centers used the same rigid envelope and their shipping costs were only $.99 for four prints.
We gave each photo developing service 1 to 6 business days to send us our completed prints; Mpix met that requirement.Mpix is one of the largest professional photography labs in the United States. There is a variety of editing features to enhance your digital photos with as well as several other photo enhancing possibilities available to extend the life of your prints, but all at a cost.
