Mpix is designed for the advanced amateur or experienced photographer that knows what they want and how they want it. We would not suggest this service for the average shutterbug. They are expensive, don’t offer gifts and will not enhance your images for free.
Mpix's process for uploading photos is extremely organized, but along the way there are several chances to purchase additional services to enhance your prints. Be careful that you don't accidentally add more cost than you want from these enhancements.
To test for quality, we sent the same digital photos to all of the online photo developers we reviewed.
Note: To check quality, we took each set of prints received from the online photo developer and laid them down, side-by-side for comparison.
This site is geared more toward professionals and advanced armatures. We found they focused more on the type of paper and photo features more than their gift options. Additionally, they have a really short storage expiration set at 60 days, whereas, most services will keep your photos hosted for one year. It also seemed to take longer uploading photos than most of the services we reviewed.
They also offer finishing services such as canvas or matte board, as well as retouching.
Our prints came in a thin paper sleeve, wrapped inside a rigid, cardboard envelope. One of the other online photo centers used the same rigid envelope and their shipping costs were only $.99 for four prints.
We gave each photo developing service 1 to 6 business days to send us our completed prints; Mpix met that requirement.
Mpix’s support is sufficient in its standard features. An online support system is in place, as well as email support. Tutorial videos are also posted on their site to help iron out some difficulties with the site. No phone line is available, though Mpix has an interesting support feature in the form of an online forum. Not only can you find answers to questions here, but you can also find helpful tips from other customers and the Mpix staff.
Mpix is one of the largest professional photography labs in the United States and a decent digital photo printing service. There is a variety of editing features to enhance your digital photos with as well as several other photo enhancing possibilities available to extend the life of your prints, but all at a cost.
